MINISTRY HIGHLIGHTS:  AMBASSADORS FOR CHRIST

By Jami Kuckelman

Hello fellow parishioners! Have you ever been to an Ascension fish fry or church event and wondered who those people are wearing the bright yellow aprons? My name is Jami Kuckelman and I lead the “yellow apron ministry,” officially known as the Ambassadors for Christ!

Many of you may already know my husband, Deacon Kris, who was ordained in June of 2020, and we have been members of Church of the Ascension since 2006. We have three grown daughters, Katie, Abbie and Maggie. Katie is married to Joe Peterson, and they have one child, Benedict, who will be one in November. Abbie is married to Ben Schmitz and they have Madeline (7), Samuel (5), Mary Kate (3) and Julia (1). Maggie, our youngest, is married to Jack Hellie and they currently live in London.

After being a busy stay-at-home mom while the girls were growing up, I am now a very busy Mimi helping out with all 5 grandkids, who fortunately live locally. When looking for a way to give back and volunteer, I knew I needed something very flexible, as I am frequently called into duty with our grandkids. Being an Ambassador for Christ is the perfect ministry for anyone in a similar situation, who is unable to commit to a regular volunteer position. When the church is hosting any event that will bring in non-parishioners, the Ambassadors are asked to help out. We don our aprons and friendly smiles and offer any help that the organizers need. I send out a sign-up genius for help and if you’re able to help, you respond and if you’re not available, it’s no problem, maybe you’ll be able to help next time! The only requirement is a smile and friendly personality to make all feel welcome as they are visiting our parish. If this sounds like something you’re interested in, please call or send me a text at 913.206.0823 and I will happily add you to the Ambassadors volunteer list!
