Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
Today the Church presents to us readings that speak of mission. In the first reading, Amos, tells of God’s call for him to be a prophet.
In the Gospel passage, Jesus sends out his disciples two by two to preach repentance, cast out demons, and bring healing. They were sent to tell of the Good News of God’s love and of the Heavenly Father’s saving plan that is revealed through Jesus of Nazareth.
At the completion of Jesus’ own saving mission, He told His apostles, and through them tells each of us, to go and make disciples of all nations, to invite people to be baptized, and to teach the world all that Jesus has taught. Thus, we are all called to share the Gospel, the Good News of God’s love for us and His plan for our salvation.
The Gospel message is that God created us good and wanted us to share in His divine life. By the envy of the devil death entered the world (Wis 2:24) and because of the rebellion of our first parents, humankind became enslaved to sin. But in His profound love for humanity, God sent His Word that became flesh (Jesus) to rescue us from eternal death and to open the gates of heaven. Our life is a response in faith to that gift by saying “yes” to God’s will.
We are all called to share this Good News, to speak of it, and testify to it by the way we live our lives. We are all called to be on mission, to be missionary disciples. If we believe in a heaven and a hell, how much would we have to hate someone not to share the Good News, not to invite them to choose eternal life by opening their hearts to God’s saving grace in Jesus Christ.
Love demands that we share this amazing Good News.
Sincerely yours in Christ Jesus, the Way, the Truth and the Life,
