… But She Never Gives Up!
Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
This 4th Sunday of Easter also falls on Mother’s Day. So, I wish to extend sincere gratitude to all mothers on this day on which we recall the way God showers blessings on children through their mothers.
In this month of May, we also remember the most famous mother in all of history, the Blessed Virgin Mary. Unlike other mothers, she bore her child as a sinless virgin, but in all other ways she experienced the joys and trials of motherhood.
Mothers marvel at the mystery of life that stirs within their wombs, and they bond with their children even before they are born. Imagine being Mary and knowing that the new life growing within you is the incarnate Word of God, the One who created you and sustains you in being.
We do not know to what extent Mary grasped the immensity of the mystery of the Incarnation, but we do know that on the first Christmas, after the shepherds shared their experience of the heavenly hosts of angels announcing Jesus’ birth, “Mary kept all these things in her heart and pondered them” (Lk 2:19).
A mother’s main task in life is to help her children achieve their eternal destiny, heaven. A mother, despite her best efforts, is sometimes disappointed by a child’s unwise or unhealthy choices. But she never gives up on her child or stops loving them; she just prays all the more for them.
On this day when we honor our mothers, I encourage you to invoke the prayers of Mary, the Mother of God, to intercede for all mothers. May God bless and watch over our mothers, those still with us and those who have departed this life. We your children say, “thank you, mom” and offer prayers of gratitude for our mothers.
Sincerely yours in Christ Jesus, the Way, the Truth and the Life,
