Faith Formation for Children with Special Needs
Brooke A. Warlop:
Hello everyone! My name is Brooke Warlop and I am thrilled to be joining Ascension as a volunteer teaching faith formation to kids with special needs. I grew up in Shawnee, Kansas where I attended Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic School from kindergarten through eighth grade, then moving onto Saint James Academy for high school. All throughout elementary and high school I was a peer mentor, working with peers who have special needs. This is where I truly fell in love with working with people who have disabilities. When it came time to go to college, I attended Kansas State University where I got my degree in Elementary Special Education. I am currently working on getting my master’s degree in Low Incidence Special Education. I work in my dream job as a special education teacher in the Blue Valley District. I am so excited to be a part of helping children grow in their faith and cannot wait to help Ascension reach kids with special needs.
Megan Thomas:
Hello, my name is Megan Thomas. I attended Catholic schools from Kindergarten through high school. I went to Sacred Heart of Jesus for elementary and middle school, and Saint James Academy for high school. Throughout my education, I have always had a love for helping others. Starting in Kindergarten at Sacred Heart, I had a close friend who has Down syndrome. I knew I loved working around him and being his friend. Then in high school, I was a peer mentor for our life skills class. I enjoyed this so much that I decided to study Elementary Education with an emphasis in Special Education at Kansas State University. I just finished my first year of teaching, and I loved it so much. I am thankful for this opportunity to continue working with kids to help them grow in their Catholic faith.
