My name is Fr. Brent Stull. I was born in Wichita, Kansas and was raised in Burlington, Kansas, where I received my First Holy Communion and Confirmation and learned to play the organ from my first teacher, Fr. Mike Hawken. I attended the University of Kansas and received the bachelor of music degree in organ performance. Following this, I began master’s study in church music while acting as director of music at Christ the King Church at 85th and Wornall, KCMO, where I was also music teacher at the parochial school.
During this time, I discerned a call to the priesthood and moved to Cincinnati to join the Congregation of the Oratory of Saint Philip Neri. In Cincinnati, I attended Mount Saint Mary’s Seminary for philosophy and theology studies for six years. While attending seminary, my confrère in The Oratory, Fr. Henry, and I lived and worked at our parish, Old Saint Mary’s. I was the director of sacred music and planned and played organ for nearly all Masses and liturgies that took place there.
I am very grateful to Archbishop Naumann for placing me at Church of the Ascension and look forward to working with Fr. Pennings and Fr. Nguyen and, of course, all of you in the years to come! Please pray for me as I transition from religious life to diocesan life. I look forward to getting to know you all and offering the sacraments at Church of the Ascension. God bless you!
