Ascension Track Team Eagles Fly

The Ascension student athletes finished the CYO track and field season at the CYO City Meet held at the Bishop Miege High School field on Saturday, May 6. Twenty-five Ascension student athletes in 5th through 8th grade competed in 87 individual events and finished with 16 first-place, 16 second-place and 14 third-place finishes. Five AA Divisional trophies were earned by the Ascension student athletes at the CYO City Meet.

The Ascension track team had three new records set in the  2023 season in the 60 Meter Race class including Teja Lomshek running it in 8.42 seconds (beating the previous record set in 2003: 8.64 seconds).  Ell Kammerer set a new Ascension 7th grade girls record with a time of 8.09 seconds (beating the 2016 record: 8.41 seconds).  Jack Kratofil set a Ascension 7th grade boys record with a time of 7.74 seconds (beating the 2002 record: 8.05 seconds record).

Tanner Strube, the only 5th grader representing Ascension at the City Meet, amassed enough points in his four efforts to finish third for the fifth grade team competition. Mya Lee established a new Ascension school record in the 7th grade girls’ softball throw, beating the 2019 record by nearly 6 feet with a throw of 147′ 8″.

The Ascension student athletes managed personal bests and meet wins including first-place finishes by Teja Lomshek (Ball Throw), Mya Lee  (100 & 400 Meter Dash) and a first-place finish by 7th grader Rachel Seger in the 800 Meter Race with a near school record of 2:40 — which was the fastest girl’s 800 Meter time in any age group for both the morning and afternoon meets at the April 29 City Meet.

Reviewing  the 2023 season, the 65 Ascension student athletes set five new Ascension school records. In addition the 7th grade Sprint Medley team of Emma Radke, Alexa Boos, Ell Kammerer, and Mya Lee set a new Ascension record with a time of 1:00.61, beating the record set in 2012 for the Sprint Medley Relay.

Congratulations to all of our Ascension Track Team student athletes, including our members in 3rd & 4th grade. We truly enjoyed having those athletes with us and marveled at their tenacity and hard work. We look forward to seeing you all back next season to continue the tradition of the Ascension Track team.

Congratulations to our Ascension Track Team 8th grade student athlete graduates: Anna Menghini, Auggie Collins, Bekah Cordova, Jack Boddicker, Manny Fasching, Mary Kate Connor, and Vinny Gronberg. You set an excellent example for the other team members as Christian athletes. Thank you also to Coach Dana Kreeger and Coach Beth Lee.
