Baptism

Baptism is the gateway to the Christian life, freeing us from sin, rebirthing us as children of God, and incorporating us into the Church. Through water and the Holy Spirit, we begin life in Christ. (CCC 1213–1216)

In Reconciliation, God offers mercy and forgiveness for sins committed after Baptism. Through confession, absolution, and conversion of heart, the sinner is reconciled with God and the Church. (CCC 1422–1424) 

Making one’s first reconciliation typically takes place in second grade.

Preparation for the sacrament is done both at Ascension Catholic School and through Youth Faith Formation.

The Eucharist is the source and summit of the Christian life, in which Christ gives us his Body and Blood. Through this sacrament, we are united more closely to Christ and to one another as the Church. (CCC 1324–1327)

Eucharist is offered during Mass. If a low-gluten host is needed, receive from the priest in the center aisle.

Confirmation strengthens the grace of Baptism by sealing the believer with the gift of the Holy Spirit. It roots us more deeply as children of God and equips us to witness to Christ in the world. (CCC 1285–1289)

The Anointing of the Sick brings Christ’s healing presence to those who are seriously ill or near death. It offers spiritual strength, peace, forgiveness of sins, and sometimes physical healing. (CCC 1499–1505)

Matrimony unites a baptized man and woman in a lifelong covenant of love open to new life. Through this sacrament, spouses receive grace to love each other as Christ loves the Church. (CCC 1601, 1641–1642)
