Parish Updates April 17, 2020

Please join us via live stream, by clicking here as we continue to celebrate daily Mass at 7:00am, daily Adoration at noon, and weekend Masses at 4:30pm on Saturday and 8:15am on Sunday.  As an added live stream we will celebrate Divine Mercy Sunday at 3:00pm with the Exposition and Chaplet of Divine Mercy.  Divine Mercy Sunday is the Easter gift that the Church receives from the risen Christ and offers to humanity. The devotion to Divine Mercy Sunday grew rapidly after its designation by Pope John Paul II and is now widely celebrated by Catholics.  Please let us know if there is anything we can do to make you feel more connected during this uncertain time.  The entire Church of the Ascension Family is in our thoughts and prayers.  Since you will not be receiving a hard copy of the bulletin please read it here.

A MESSAGE FROM FATHER TOM

I trust that all of you are doing well in the midst of this difficult and uncertain times.  Please know that you are remembered daily at prayer as we celebrate the Eucharist and Adoration.   My apologies for the absence of the daily Mass and Adoration Wednesday and Thursday.  Evergy was in the process of disconnecting and reconnecting the electricity so the entire facility was without power and therefore we could not live stream. My apologies. But now the electricity is flowing so we are back to normal.
Hopefully most of you are doing well with working from home or otherwise.  However, I am sure that some of you have been furloughed or laid off or find yourself otherwise in difficult financial situations.  Please be aware of the Good Samaritan Fund which can assist with some basic needs for parishioners.  Thanks to the generosity of fellow parishioners the Fund is there as a backup support.  Please do not hesitate to contact me if you are experiencing financial difficulties because of Covid19.  The Fund may not be able to provide for major needs, but can assist with some of the basics.  Contact me at 913-681-3348 x 137 or at frtom@kcascension.org.  Let us pray for one another during these challenging times.  Easter blessings!   Fr. Tom

DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY, APRIL 19, RESOURCES
Join the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal in praying the Divine Mercy Chaplet and asking God to shower his mercy upon us. Watch as Fr. Michael Gaitley walks us through the history of God’s love and mercy. As he shares the transformative message of St. Faustina, the miraculous appearance of Mary at Fatima, Maximilian Kolbe’s witness of Marian devotion, and how Pope St. John Paul II’s papacy and devotion to divine mercy helped change the world. (A great book that goes along with Fr. Gaitley’s Divine Mercy is The Second Greatest Story Ever Told.)
